Ohio Valley Gas Corporation SMART CONSUMERS
NATURAL
A domestic energy
source that produces dependable, quality heat. With natural gas you can expect immediate, toasty –warm heat from your registers,
water that arrives hot and replenishes fast, and food cooked to perfection with
instant, precise flame control.
BETTER COMFORT
You spend money on
heating not just to survive, but to be comfortable. Electric heat may promise some up-front,
short term opportunities to save money, but are you really happy if you are
uncomfortable? Natural gas can provide
you with “instant” comfort, plus exceptional efficiency and long term
savings. A high-efficiency natural gas
furnace can keep you and your family comfortable for far less than a comparable
electric furnace.
A VERSATILE,
NATURALLY OCCURRING ENERGY SOURCE DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR.
Take a good hard look
at highly efficient gas furnaces, ranges, water heaters, fireplaces, and
clothes dryers. All use less energy and
work faster than their electric counterparts. And you keep saving all summer long with natural gas grills, pool/spa
heaters, ect. Rebate/incentive programs
may be available to help homeowners and home builders offset the cost of
natural gas appliances and installation costs.
RELIABLE
Most of us have
experienced a long lasting power outage due to an ice storm or
thunderstorm. What Ohio Valley Gas
customers know is that most natural gas cook tops, ranges, water heaters, and
fireplaces will continue to work in a power outage, letting you cook, bathe,
and warm your home without interruption. When the power goes out, the gas stays on. And it does so safely and conveniently.

NATURAL
Natural Gas is, in
fact, the most environmentally friendly of the various fossil fuels we use to
heat and cool our homes and businesses. Installing high efficiency, energy conserving natural gas equipment is a
win-win proposition. With natural gas
appliances (furnaces, water heaters, clothes dryers, cook stoves, fireplaces,
pool heaters, and grills), the homeowner is assured of dependable home comfort
and convenience, while decreasing their home’s carbon footprint for the future.
On average, 90% of
the energy produced as natural gas is delivered directly to the end-use
consumer. In contrast, only 30-35% of
the energy provided by fuels used for the generation of electricity is
delivered to consumers. 1 Therefore, it takes much more fossil fuel (whatever
type) to generate electricity, which produces more carbon dioxide, for the same
amount of energy. Simply stated, much
less carbon dioxide is released into the environment with the use of natural
gas appliances versus electric appliances.
Additionally, the
direct use of natural gas holds additional environmental advantages in the
reduced production of other air pollutants (oxides of nitrogen, sulfur dioxide,
particulates, ect.) as well as reduced solid waste and waste water production,
and reduced land use disruption.
